[Home]ToDo/0.5.0/Hardware/Savage

Hilary Cheng has ported the Savage driver from XFree86/DirectFB sources. The driver currently only works with the Savage IX/MX chips but Hilary has indicated he will add support for other Savage cards. Awaiting further improvements and testing before the driver is added to Syllable CVS

Update

July, 19th 2005: I've ported the Savage driver fresh from Xorg (Including some code from DirectFB & the old IX/MX driver). The new driver should support all Savage chipsets (Not the Via "ProSavage" Unichrome though) and has accelerations & overlays working so far on a Savage IX-MV. The driver will be shipped in 0.5.7

November, 10th 2004: The Savage IX/MX driver has been removed from Syllable and placed in the CVS Attic. Currently no Savage/Twister chipsets are directly supported, although they should all work with the Vesa 2 driver.

December, 22nd 2003 : VIA/S3 have released a complete Open Source XFree86 driver which supports all current Savage and future Twister chipsets, with complete video playback support (Overlays, MPEG decode) and DRI & OpenGL. There is also a CLE266 MPEG decoder driver. All we need is someone to port & maintain the code for Syllable!

October 3rd, 2003 : The basic IX/MX only driver has been checked into Syllable CVS. Hilary still hopes to add Savage Pro support at some point.
